I’ve been running a web design business for well over 10 years, in that time I’ve made a million billion mistakes; not mistakes with building websites (well, not many) – no, I’m talking about all that other business stuff. My aim for this blog is to help share experiences and best practices.
If you are a UK freelancer or you run your own agency/team then it’s you guys that I’m trying to reach. You probably got into the business because you love doing web stuff but you probably took quite a lot of knocks along the way as you found out you needed to learn a lot more than CSS and PHP to survive. You had to learn about marketing, clients, pricing, hiring people, firing people, writing proposals, sales pipelines etc etc…the list goes on. My aim is to help share best practice so that you don’t make the same mistakes I did. I don’t know all the answers (far from it!) and I’ll be speaking to lots of other folks to help share their experiences.
Update: there is a ‘Business of Web Design’ conference coming to Cardiff in July 2014
This blog won’t really cover nitty, gritty technical or design stuff; this is strictly business; web business.
p.s. you can find me on Twitter and I also run the Port80 Web Conference.
